Alexandria Hospital - when it was located in Old Town area of Alexandria, Virginia

For this Flashback Friday posting, we turn to Alexandria Hospital which is located in the west end of Alexandria at 4320 Seminary Road. In 1872, Julia Johns and other community members formed the Alexandria Infirmary Association, which later became Alexandria Hospital – the first full-service hospital in Northern Virginia. But, via the Library of Congress, did you know it was located in what is now Old Town Alexandria for several decades?

An interesting fact about Alexandria Hospital – Upon the move to the Seminary Road location, Alexandria Hospital became the first facility in the nation to staff an emergency department around the clock with full-time dedicated ER physicians.
