Yates Pizza Palace in Alexandria, Virginia – An Update

Yates Pizza Palace in Alexandria, Virginia - an update
Yesterday morning, while I was tracking down the rumor over Yates purchase of the Table Talk Restaurant in Alexandria, I was able to chat with Jeffrey Yates for a few minutes on another purchase of his from last year – The Yates Pizza Palace.

Readers ask for updates on this every week so here you go…

As readers know, Mr. Yates bought the building housing the old Generous Georges at 3000 Duke Street in 2014. Mr. Yates and his team then went before the Alexandria Planning Commission and City Council for approval of their Special Use Permit (SUP) for the space in December 2014.

Now, in the last six (6) months, Mr. Yates and team have been working with the City on acquiring their building permits for the space. Mr. Yates said he anticipates approximately six (6) months construction once the permits are issued (expected sometime within the next two weeks).

Mr. Yates said when purchasing a property that he always follows a golden rule when dealing with the City of Alexandria – budget for the development time you think you need (in this case nine (9) months), then multiply that by 2 (eighteen (18) months). He said anticipates opening in the fall/winter of this year.

Here’s what the location will look like when construction is completed:

As you can see from the rendering above, there will be a complete remodel of the exterior of the building.

There will be a complete remodel of the interior as well. Inside, there will be 387 seats inside the restaurant and seating for 61 on the rooftop according to the SUP (see link above). The menu will take its cue from Generous George’s, offering pizza, pasta and sauces made from scratch. Mr. Yates said the aim is to provide the BEST New York style pizza at the location and Mr. Yates said he’d like to see live music at the location on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The restaurant will include two kitchens instead of one, two bar areas, valet parking, and include take-out and delivery.
