Power outage affecting over 1K Alexandria Customers

UPDATE (1:28 PM):: Spoke with representative from Dominion who notes all power should be back ON to those that were affected by the brief outage. The rep says the outage was caused by an underground cable failure in the North Royal Street and First Street area. Residents in that location may notice a lingering odor of smoke for some time but, the cause has been fixed.


UPDATE (1:14 PM):: As long as refrigerators and freezer doors are kept CLOSED. Food should be fine.


UPDATE (1:03 PM):: Spoke with Dominion who says there are technicians on site working to restore power and that the initial diagnosis is some sort of equipment failure in the area. Restoration timeframe still pegged for sometime btw/ 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

UPDATE (12:56 PM):: Dominion says power should be restored to the Old Town North neighborhood sometime btw/ 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. and the cause remains under investigation.

More than 1100 customers are currently without power Saturday (January 9, 2016) in the Old Town North neighborhood of Alexandria, according to Dominion Power. The cause of the outage is pending investigation, according to the power company.

The map shows 1096 customers without power between Slaters Lane and Queen Street and from North Royal Street to North Alfred Street.

Dominion has not stated the cause or any timetable for restoration as of yet.
