City Hall hosting One-Stop Shop Permitting Day for Food Trucks This Week
The City of Alexandria invites all mobile food truck vendors to obtain their necessary inspections, licenses, and permits on a special one-stop shop permitting day on Thursday, May 26, from 8:00 am to 10:00 am in the City’s Permit Center in City Hall, 301 King St, in Suite 4200, Vendors may park on the 100 block of Royal Street, next to Market Square.
On May 10, the Alexandria City Council voted to allow food truck vendors to operate in three designated, on-street locations on public property in addition to previously approved off-street locations.
On-street food truck vending will begin within the next 30 days in the following areas:
- 800 block of N. West Street, north of Madison Street, near the Braddock Road Metro;
- the 1700 block of King Street adjacent to King Street Gardens; and
- The 2200 block of Eisenhower Avenue, near Mill Road.
To operate a food truck in the City of Alexandria, food truck vendors are required to obtain a Health Department Permit, inspections from both the Health Department and Fire Department, a City of Alexandria Business License, and a Mobile Food Truck Permit. (NOTE: Because the plans required for the Health Department Permit must be submitted in advance to expedite plan reviews required to obtain the permit, all plans must be submitted to the Health Department by close of business on Monday, May 23.).
Vendors who already have the necessary permits may begin vending in the DESIGNATED LOCATIONS as soon as the City posts signs, which will be within the next 30 days.
City Council also voted to waive the $250 Mobile Food Truck Vendor Fee for the 2016 permit year. Additional pertinent fees, such as the Food Truck Application fee ($100), Health Permit fee ($290), Fire Prevention Permit fee ($186.19), and the Business License ($250) will still apply.
