Bradlee Barber Shop reopens after renovation

This is an update to this post.

We hear that Bradlee Barber Shop in Alexandria, Virginia, a place where I got my first haircut when I was at MacArthur Elementary, has now reopened for business at Bradlee Shopping Center. Officially reopening this past Saturday under new ownership.

We hear the place was jumping and has the same barbers. There is a NEW number for the barber shop – 703.909.5866.

Bradlee Barber Shop

This is an update to this post.

Looks like new owners have fixed the sign mentioned in the link above.

As we mentioned at this link, the Bradlee Barber Shop in Alexandria, Virginia, a place where I got my first haircut when I was at MacArthur Elementary, is closed temporarily while the 500+ square foot shop undergoes a renovation. On January 3, we understood from sources that the renovation should take about ten (10) days.

The store will reopen under new management and we have confirmed with two (2) more sources that all barbers will return once the shop re-opens. See the shop’s new phone number in the photo above.

The former owners of the shop, the Monahan’s, left this note on the window to longtime patrons.

Now, if the new management could learn how to spell ‘Bradlee’ correctly…

UPDATE (10:08 AM): Heard from another source in the know that the Barber shop is closed temporarily and will RE-OPEN after January 1, 2016 under new management. My source CONFIRMS that all the barbers on staff will return when the shop re-opens.

UPDATE (9:21 AM): Had a source call me back who knows the situation and confirms the closure is likely temporary. We will keep our ear to the ground on this and as always, our readers will be the first to know. Adjusted the title of the post as well from earlier.

Bradlee Barber Shop in Alexandria, Virginia, a place where I got my first haircut when I was at MacArthur Elementary, apparently has closed temporarily. A reader tipped us off to this yesterday and I went by there this morning. The chairs are gone and the place looks abandoned. Since the original post, I have heard from a source in the know that the closure is TEMPORARY.

Calls to the shop have gone unanswered, there is nothing on the shop’s Facebook page about this and we have reached out to Bradlee Shopping Center for comment.

More to come…

Michaels - The Arts & Crafts StoreDress Barn closing its doors January 31, 2016

As we told you first last week, Michaels, the national arts and crafts chain, will be opening its first location in Alexandria, Virginia in the Bradlee shopping center.

I was out yesterday at the shopping center and spoke to a few folks who confirmed this news and mentioned Dress Barn,  the women’s clothing retailer, will be closing its doors on January 31, 2016 at the shopping center.

As mentioned previously, the Alexandria Michaels store will be two (2) floors and roughly 25,000 square feet with a little more than 12,000 square feet at street level. The downstairs space was once part of the Washington Sports Club, which closed last year.

As always, we’ll keep our readers up-to-date as this progresses.

Michaels - The Arts & Crafts Store

Craft lovers in the City of Alexandria, Virginia will soon have a new place to shop in Bradlee Shopping Center.

Michaels, the national arts and crafts chain, will be opening its first location in the City limits in the shopping center. Sources tell me they will be taking over the current Dress Barn location at the center. It is unclear at this time when the Dress Barn lease is up. As soon as I find out, as usual, our readers will be the first to know.

The store’s layout always features wide aisles and departments including home decor, jewelry and art supplies.

The Alexandria Michaels store will be roughly 25,000 square feet with a little more than 12,000 square feet at street level.

Customers are also offered a variety of classes at Michael’s stores, including courses in jewelry making and paper crafting.

UPDATE (7:29 AM):: First pictures

Due to a water main break on King Street in the Fairlington/Bradlee neighborhood, westbound King Street is closed from Menokin Drive to Park Center Drive. LIKELY means ramps are CLOSED in this area as well. Plan using alternate routes in this area today.
