Today, on President’s Day, we honor the nation’s first president, George Washington, who was born on February 22, 1732 and all persons who have served as president.

The nation’s largest George Washington Birthday parade, happening from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM TODAY, marches a one-mile route through the streets of Old Town Alexandria. With nearly 3,500 participants, this community parade honors one of the city’s favorite sons.

Long ago, fans of the Washington Redskins like me got to watch their football team in the Super Bowl – four (4) of them (seems like its bee a LONG time since then eh?). But, if you’re like me with one TV at home and a wife that doesn’t enjoy sports, you can still enjoy the biggest sports event of the year in Alexandria, Virginia.

Alexandria, Virginia  has plenty of sports bars with big screens for the big game. So, grab some friends and head down to one of these great joints to watch Super Bowl LI (51) and enjoy the biggest sports event of the year. This list would include Pork Barrel BBQ but, they are closed for Bill Euille’s annual Super Bowl party.

Howl-O-Ween in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia

Costumed Canines to Compete for Howl-O-Ween Prizes

Alexandria, Virginia area dogs will be showing off Halloween costumes and competing for prizes, including for the spookiest, funniest, and most original costumes and most/least enthusiastic pet at the annual Doggie Costume Contest ‘Howl-O-Ween’ hosted by Hotel Monaco Alexandria – A Kimpton Hotel and Jackson 20 to benefit the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA).

Steve Rudin of ABC 7 News will be the emcee. Megan Webb, Executive Director of Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and Charlie, Alexandria’s 2017 Animal of the Year will be the judges.

This Happy Hour event will feature Halloween-themed cocktails and light bites, as well as contestants strutting down the “catwalk” while competing for “Most Glamorous Get-Up”, “Best Dressed Couple”, and the prestigious, “Top Dog” Award.
