Metroaccess paratransit service in the Washington, D.C. area.

MetroAccess Service to Resume After Winter Storm Stella

MetroAccess paratransit service for customers with disabilities will resume service on Wednesday morning in the Washington, D.C. area after winter storm Stella. The MetroAccess reservations call center has reopened as of noon today (Tuesday) to assist customers with scheduling trips for Wednesday and future dates.

Due to the nature of MetroAccess service, where vehicles often travel on secondary or tertiary streets, customers may experience lengthier trip times due to road conditions. In some cases, “door-to-door” service may be unavailable where driveways or sidewalks have not been cleared of snow and ice. In such cases, the driver will provide “curb-to-curb service” instead.

Customers with subscription trips reserved for Wednesday who would prefer not to travel are encouraged to call the MetroAccess call center to cancel as soon as possible.

WMATA proposes adjusting rush hour and non-rush hour service on all rail lines. Proposed changes for the Yellow and Blue lines serving Alexandria would include:

  • An increase in rush hour Blue Line service from every 12 minutes to every 8 minutes
  • A reduction in non-rush hour and weekend service from every 12 minutes to every 15 minutes

Two bus routes with stops in Alexandria would be affected by the proposed budget. The proposal would eliminate the 7X (Lincolnia – Pentagon) and 28X (Leesburg Pike Limited) routes.

Track Work this weekend affecting three of six Lines

Metro is reminding weekend riders of a major track work project that will affect service on the Orange, Blue and Silver lines this weekend. Free shuttle buses will replace all trains between Foggy Bottom and Eastern Market stations on Saturday, February 4, and Sunday, February 5. As a result, six stations will be closed: Farragut West, McPherson Square, Federal Triangle, Smithsonian, Federal Center SW and Capitol South.

In addition, the lower level platforms will be closed at Metro Center and L’Enfant Plaza. (Metro Center will be open for Red Line service only; L’Enfant Plaza will be open for Yellow and Green line service only.)

Multiple Metro crews will perform work in the zone, including installation of cell phone and radio infrastructure to support improved communication in tunnels, fixing displaced ceiling tiles, and conventional track improvements to rails, fasteners, insulators and other components.   (more…)
