Dutch Touch eatery at King Street Station in Alexandria, Virginia

UPDATE (10:18 AM): A reader comments below that the reason for the closure is the landlord increased the rent and the owner was forced to close the eatery because of this.

The Dutch Touch, a popular eatery in the King Street Station property located directly across from the King Street-Old Town Metro Station, has closed. No explanation on the door. Do any of our readers know why?

Retail space for lease in the Upper King Street neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia

Like today’s earlier posting on The Kitchen Guild, my apologies for just getting around to posting this news. A couple of readers emailed me about this closure last week.

Le Tastevin Fine Wines, which was part of the resurgence in specialty retail in the Upper King Street neighborhood of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, has closed. I can’t find a site with any information about the closure simply to say that it seemed like it had just opened a couple of years back. The Facebook page has nothing about the closure. If you are interested in the space, call the number above.

Retail space opportunities in the King Street corridor don’t come along often but, seem to be happening more and more lately (see here, here, and here for three examples).

What do you think about this? What would you like to see replace it in the Upper King Street neighborhood?

Upper King Street Fresh Farmers' Market - Returning in 2014

After a year away, it looks like the Upper King Street Fresh Farmers’ Market will be returning in 2014 with a couple of changes.

The Upper King Street Neighborhood Association has an Administrative Special Use Permit request pending to hold a weekly farmers’ market on Thursdays instead of the previous Wednesday. Also, looks like they will be moving from the old location at King Street Gardens to a new location at King Street Station off of Reinekers Lane (See below…).

You can view the SUP request at this link (PDF file).
