This is an update to this post. The Portner Brewhouse is opening at Modera Tempo, the 360 unit mixed-use apartment complex at South Van Dorn Street and South Pickett Street in the Van Dorn neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia.

We had heard this was to be a June 2016 opening. We now hear this will be an early fall 2016 opening. As you can see, a LOT of progress has been made on the new brewhouse.

Co-founder Catherine Portner says “We are greatly looking forward to joining the Alexandria community this year and celebrating the return of Portner beer after a 100 year hiatus! Presently, we are projecting our opening towards the end of the summer/early fall due to unforeseen permitting delays.”

Catherine wanted to remind our readers that, like me, you can get the latest updates from the Portner Brewhouse by joining the FREE Taste Test Team.

As readers know, Edsall Road between S. Van Dorn and S. Whiting near I-395 remains closed Thursday while crews finish repairing last night’s MAJOR water main break in Alexandria, Virginia.

Work is almost complete on repairs to the water main as well as the two broken valves in the immediate vicinity of the break. However, crews still must finish repairing the roadway after the repairs to the water main are complete. Expect Edsall Road to remain CLOSED through the beginning of the evening rush hour.

Now, Virginia American Water has issued this boiling water advisory for the immediate area around Edsall Road

Almost finished repairs. If you are still without water now, we anticipate water to be back on between 3 and 4 pm today.

When it comes back on, if you live at Landmark Terrace, Alexandria Station, Stanton Place or Cascade at Landmark please boil your water first before drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, bathing, and food preparation. bring to a full boil for a minimum of one minute, then cool before use. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water.

Once the system recovers, we will be collecting water quality samples in the area of the outage. You will receive another message from us letting you know when this advisory is over.

For more information, call us at 1-800-452-6863.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure the integrity of the system and the quality of the water. Please share this information with all other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure the integrity of the system and the quality of the water.

Edsall Road between S. Van Dorn and S. Whiting near I-395 remains closed Thursday morning while crews finish repairing last night’s MAJOR water main break in Alexandria, Virginia. Weather is hampering the effort and delaying the crew. Crews found not only the water main broke in this repair but, also two valves.

Crews have repaired one valve and are finishing repairing the second valve. Then, they will begin repairing the water main and repairing the roadway. I would expect this closed through morning rush hour.

Main break update — one valve feeding Edsall fixed, working on second valve now. Apts on Edsall should start seeing…
