Friday, Aug. 24 at 8 p.m. CONTINUOUSLY through Saturday, Aug. 25 at 10 p.m.:

  • The exit ramps from the Outer Loop LOCAL to Telegraph Road South, Huntington Avenue and N. Kings Highway will be closed. Detour: Motorists should continue to U.S. Route 1 South to Huntington or N. Kings Highway West to Telegraph Road.

Friday, Aug. 24 at 8 p.m. CONTINUOUSLY through Saturday, Aug. 25 at 10 p.m.; ALSO Monday, Aug. 27 through Thursday, Aug. 30 DAILY from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and NIGHTLY from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning:

  • The ramp from Telegraph Road to N. Kings Highway will be closed. Detour: Motorists should take the Huntington Avenue ramp to Huntington Avenue East to U.S. Route 1 South to N. Kings Highway.

Friday, Aug. 24 at 8 p.m. CONTINUOUSLY through Saturday, Aug. 25 at 10 p.m.; ALSO Monday, Aug. 27 through Thursday, Aug. 30 NIGHTLY from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning:

  • The ramp from Telegraph Road to Huntington Avenue will be closed. Detour: Motorists should take the ramp to N. Kings Highway to U.S. Route 1 North to left on Huntington Avenue. Note that this ramp will remain open if the N. Kings Highway ramp noted above is closed and vice versa.

Friday, Aug. 24 OVERNIGHT from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning:

  • Telegraph Road South will be completely closed between Duke Street and Huntington Avenue. Detours: Motorists traveling Duke Street West should continue to the Van Dorn interchange to Van Dorn South to Franconia Road East to Telegraph Road South. Motorists traveling on Duke Street East should continue to U.S. Route 1 South to Huntington Avenue West to Telegraph Road South.
  • The exit ramp from the Inner Loop to Telegraph Road South will be closed. Detour: Motorists can exit early at U.S. Route 1 South to Huntington Avenue West to Telegraph Road South, or can continue on the Inner Loop to the Van Dorn interchange to Van Dorn South to Franconia Road East to Telegraph Road South.

  • Telegraph Road North will be completely closed between Huntington Avenue and Duke Street. Detour: Motorists should take the Eisenhower Avenue ramp to Eisenhower Avenue East to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street.
  • The exit ramp from the Outer Loop LOCAL to Telegraph Road North/Duke Street will be closed. Detour: Motorists should take continue to U.S. Route 1 North to left on Duke Street. UPDATE: THIS RAMP CLOSURE WILL ALSO TAKE PLACE TUESDAY NIGHT, AUG. 21.
  • The exit ramps from the Inner Loop LOCAL to Pershing Avenue and Telegraph Road North will be closed. Detour: Motorists should continue to the Eisenhower Connector exit and return on Eisenhower Avenue East to the Eisenhower Valley, or continue to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street. UPDATE: THIS CLOSURE WILL ALSO TAKE PLACE TUESDAY NIGHT, AUG. 21.
  • The access ramps from U.S. Route 1 South and North to the Inner Loop LOCAL will be closed. Detour: Motorists should use the on-ramps to the Inner Loop THRU lanes.

Monday, Aug. 20, Tuesday, Aug. 21 NIGHTLY from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning: UPDATE: THIS CLOSURE WILL ALSO TAKE PLACE THURSDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHTS, AUG. 23 AND 24.

  • The Inner Loop exit ramp to Telegraph Road South will be closed. Monday detour: Motorists should continue to the Eisenhower Connector exit to return on Eisenhower Avenue East to Mill Road to Telegraph Road South. Tuesday detour: Motorists should continue to the exit for Van Dorn Street South to return on the Outer Loop to the exit to Telegraph Road South.

  • The access ramps from Telegraph Road North and South to the Inner Loop will be closed. Detours: Northbound motorists should continue to Duke Street West to Van Dorn Street South to the ramp to the Inner Loop. Southbound motorists have two detours: On Tuesday night, they should take Duke Street to either the Van Dorn or U.S. Route 1 access to the Inner Loop. On Wednesday through Friday nights, they should take the ramp to Huntington Avenue East to U.S. Route 1 North to the ramp to the Inner Loop.

Wednesday, Aug. 22 through Friday, Aug. 24 NIGHTLY from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning – ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CLOSURES WITH OCCUR, BUT NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME: UPDATE: THIS CLOSURE IS NOW ALSO SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY NIGHT, AUG. 20.

  • The ramp from Telegraph Road to N. Kings Highway will be closed. Detour: Motorists should take the Huntington Avenue ramp to Huntington Avenue East to U.S. Route 1 South to N. Kings Highway.
  • The ramp from Telegraph Road to Huntington Avenue will be closed. Detour: Motorists should take the ramp to N. Kings Highway to U.S. Route 1 North to left on Huntington Avenue. Note that this ramp will remain open as the detour when the Telegraph Road South access ramp to the Outer Loop is closed (listed above).

Wednesday, Aug. 22 through Saturday, Aug. 25 NIGHTLY from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning:

  • The exit ramps from the Outer Loop LOCAL to Telegraph Road South, Huntington Avenue and N. Kings Highway will be closed. Detour: Motorists should continue to U.S. Route 1 South to Huntington or N. Kings Highway West to Telegraph Road.

Mill Road will be closed between Stovall Street and Telegraph Road. This is just past the Hoffman buildings in our neighborhood and goes under the Telegraph Road railroad bridge. This stretch of road is being closed off as workers continue work on expanding the railroad bridge overhead.  Detour:  Motorists should turn left on Stovall Street to right on Eisenhower Avenue to right on Mill Road to Telegraph Road.

Telegraph Road South will be completely closed between Duke Street and Huntington Avenue TONIGHT (8/21/2012) from 9:00pm to 5:00am.  Detours: Motorists traveling Duke Street West should continue to the Van Dorn interchange to Van Dorn South to Telegraph Road South.  Motorists traveling on Duke Street East should continue to U.S. Route 1 South to Huntington Avenue West to Telegraph Road South.

  • The access ramps from U.S. Route 1 North and South to the Inner Loop LOCAL will be closed. Detours: Motorists will be routed to the Inner Loop THRU Lanes. Access to the Telegraph Road ramps will be closed.

Monday, Aug. 6 OVERNIGHT from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning:

  • The left lane of the Outer Loop (I-95/495 North) will be closed between the Van Dorn and Eisenhower Connector interchanges. There will be a complete closure for 15 minutes just after midnight.

Monday, Aug. 6 and Tuesday, Aug. 7 NIGHTLY from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning:

  • The Inner Loop and Outer Loop exit ramps to Telegraph Road North will be closed. Detours: Inner Loop travelers should continue to the Eisenhower Connector exit to Eisenhower Avenue East to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street. Outer Loop travelers should take the Eisenhower Avenue exit and stay straight onto Stovall Street to left on Pershing Avenue to Telegraph Road North.
  • The Inner Loop exit ramp to Pershing Avenue will be closed. Detour: Continue to the Eisenhower Connector exit to Eisenhower Avenue East to Stovall Street.

Monday, Aug. 6 through Wednesday, Aug. 8 NIGHTLY from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning:

  • Southbound Telegraph Road will be completely closed between Duke Street and the Beltway. Detour signs will be posted on the road.
  • The ramp from Duke Street East to Telegraph Road South will be closed. Detour: Continue onto U.S. Route 1 South to right on Huntington Avenue West to Telegraph Road.
  • The ramp from Duke Street West to Telegraph Road South will be closed. Detour: Continue onto Van Dorn Street South to Franconia Road East to Telegraph Road.
  • Mill Road will be completely closed between Stovall Street and the Mill Road connector. Detour signs will be posted on the road.

Via WJLA, at the mid-point of Interstate 95, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge continues to be critical to the movement of individuals and freight along the Eastern United States from Maine to Florida.

The long-awaited (and one of the reasons I started this blog) expansion of the Capital Beltway in the Telegraph Road Interchange on the Virginia side of the bridge is here! The Beltway on the Virginia side is now five (5) lanes in either direction. Two lanes are considered ‘thru/express’ lanes and three lanes are considered ‘local’ lanes.

Detour: Motorists should continue to the U.S. Route 1 exit North to Duke Street; from there they can continue west to Holland Lane to the traffic circle to Eisenhower Avenue.

Tuesday, July 31, Wednesday, Aug. 2 and Friday, Aug. 3 NIGHTLY from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning:

  • The exit ramp from the Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) to Telegraph Road South will be closed for roadway construction. Detour: Motorists should continue to the Eisenhower Connector exit to Eisenhower Avenue East to Mill Road East to Telegraph Road South.

As a reminder, the Outer Loop LOCAL is restricted to a single lane to allow for final paving of the Outer Loop. THRU lanes into Maryland are open. There is no Eisenhower Avenue Connector access to the Outer Loop until August 6; detours are posted. Weather permitting, the above work will be completed and the Outer Loop THRU and LOCAL lanes will be fully open and in their final configuration on Monday morning, August 6.

Bridge Demolition starts tonight!

The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project will continue its ongoing work in the Telegraph Road interchange the week of June 11. Variable message signs will be posted to alert drivers and provide detour information when necessary. This work will have impacts on local traffic, and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.

Weather permitting, the scheduled work for the coming week and following weekend includes:

Friday, June 15 at 9 pm. CONTINUOUSLY until 5 a.m. Monday, June 18:

  • Telegraph Road North and South will be completely closed between the Capital Beltway and Duke Street for bridge demolition. The eastbound and westbound ramps from Duke Street to Telegraph Road South will be closed.
    • Detour for Northbound: Motorists should take the Eisenhower Avenue ramp to right on Eisenhower Avenue eastbound to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street.
    • Detour for Southbound from Duke Street East: Motorists should continue on Duke Street eastbound to U.S. Route 1 South to the Inner Loop to Telegraph Road South.
    • Detour for Southbound from Duke Street West: Motorists should continue on Duke Street to Van Dorn Street South to the Outer Loop to Telegraph Road South.
  • The ramp from Telegraph Road North to the Capital Beltway Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) will be closed for bridge demolition.
    • Detour: Motorists should take the Eisenhower Avenue ramp to right on Eisenhower Avenue westbound to the Eisenhower Connector access to the Inner Loop.
  • The ramps from the Capital Beltway Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) and Outer Loop (I-95/495 North) to Telegraph Road to Duke Street will be closed for bridge demolition.
    • Inner Loop Detour: Motorists should take the Pershing Avenue eastbound to Stovall Street southbound to left on Eisenhower Avenue eastbound to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street.
    • Outer Loop Detour: Motorists should take the Eisenhower Avenue ramp to right on Eisenhower Avenue eastbound to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street.
