Vola’s Dockside Grill & High Tide Lounge

Alexandria Restaurant Partners (ARP) announces the homestretch of preparations and finishing touches for the much-anticipated opening of Vola’s Dockside Grill and Hi-Tide Lounge, a casual, full-service seafood restaurant and hideaway bar on the waterfront in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia. ARP is the group behind Virtue Feed & Grain, in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia, Lena’s Wood-Fired Pizza & Tap in Alexandria, Palette 22 in Shirlington, Virginia, and The Majestic, also located in Old Town, which opened in May this year. This latest 4,800 square foot project (plus patio) is located at 101 N. Union Street, at the Torpedo Factory, and will have more than 200 seats in total, including outdoor dining space with unobstructed views across the Potomac River and beyond.

At the full-service, casual style 160-seat Vola’s Dockside Grill, guests can anticipate a raw bar, a long dining room with waterfront views, a long, 20-seat bar, and more than 75 seats at the Potomac River dockside patio. The menus emphasize a simple, straightforward approach to seafood and dockside favorites that reflect an appreciation for quality products, regional East coast cooking influences, and amplified flavors. Having readily available fresh fish, seafood, seasonal vegetables, and a clear focus on simple preparations and unfussy presentations, Corporate Executive Chef Graham Duncan, Executive Chef Santiago Lopez, and newly named Chef de Cuisine Walter Silva are excited to deliver great tasting, exceptional menus at great value.

The Hi-Tide Lounge is an intimate, 38-seat cocktail-focused hideaway bar, accessible from the main restaurant by a connecting hallway, or a separate entrance at the corner of King and Union Streets. A mix of classic drinks like frozen Piña Colada, Hurricane (on tap), tiki-inspired original recipe cocktails, craft beer on draft, and a small bar menu of appetizers compliment the early 60’s era modern vibe of the surroundings, which include vintage posters, album cover art, and retro design barstools and lounge furniture.

“Since we began talking about this project, we knew this prime spot at the Old Town, Alexandria waterfront would work best with a simple and accessible seafood concept without any pretense or fluff,” offered ARP Partner Scott Shaw. “My partners and I have a great appreciation for being on the water, and we all love seafood, so seeing our homegrown concept and the menu all fall into place is very exciting.”   (more…)

Alexandria Restaurant Partners’ Celebrates The Return of A Newly Revamped Majestic

Reopens Tuesday, May 24

Alexandria Restaurant Partners (ARP), the group behind Virtue Feed & Grain in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia, Lena’s Wood-Fired Pizza & Tap in Alexandria, Virginia, and the recently opened Palette 22 in Shirlington, Virginia, is celebrating the grand reopening of The Majestic, located in Old Town, Alexandria, at 911 King Street, 22314. Housed in an historic and iconic storefront, the newly refurbished restaurant will open for dinner service, with lunch and weekend brunch to debut later in May.

Guests can anticipate a new and fresh culinary direction with Executive Chef/Proprietor Gaby Hakman at the helm, with a diverse, seasonal, and vibrant, protein and vegetable-forward menu. Hakman has worked to create a contemporary seasonal bistro menu with ingredient-focused dishes showcasing quality olive oils, herbs, garlic, and other influences that reflect her Mediterranean palate, as well as rotisserie meats, which will add deep flavor and variety to the restaurants signature dishes. The newly renovated 85-seat dining room features a comfortable and sophisticated setting that is still approachable. Extensive updates were made to the finishes, fixtures, and furnishings making for a completely new dining experience.

Vola's Dockside Grill and High Tide Lounge coming soon to the Waterfront area in Old Town Alexandria, virginia at 7 King Street

Vola’s Dockside Grill named for former Alexandria, Virginia City Manager

Hearing that there’s a new restaurant concept forthcoming from Alexandria Restaurant Partners, the group behind Virtue Feed & Grain, the soon-to-reopen Majestic Cafe and recently opened Lena’s Woof-Fired Pizza + Tap, called Vola’s Dockside Grill and Hi-Tide Lounge, which we hear is expected to open five (5) weeks from now in late June, early July on the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.  The restaurant will be located at 7 King Street at the Torpedo Factory Art Center building.

The space was formerly occupied by the Waterfront Market which closed it’s doors on November 10, 2015.  The restaurant group is undertaking a HUGE $2 million-plus renovation which involves expansion of the space to include a takeover of the former next door jewelry store as well. The renovation also involves the installation of an exhaust hood to allow a full kitchen and a reconfiguration of the space.

We hear Vola’s is named for former Alexandria City Manager Vola Lawson.  Ms. Lawson was named a Living Legend of Alexandria in 2007 and was inducted into the Virginia Women’s Hall of Fame in 1993.

The restaurant will serve hi quality seafood and will feature a raw bar. Have heard few details on The Hi-Tide Lounge. The lounge will be in the area formerly occupied by Khalsa Jewelers (King Street & Union Street intersection) with the idea of drawing people into the lounge and restaurant.

Majestic Cafe Reopening in 2 weeks after Extensive Renovation

On Monday, May 23rd, The Majestic Café, located in the heart of Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia, at 911 King Street, 22314, will reopen after undergoing an eight week renovation.

Housed in an historic and iconic storefront, the newly refurbished restaurant will showcase a new comfortable yet sophisticated setting. Extensive updates were made to the finishes, fixtures, and furnishings making for a completely new dining experience. Additionally, guests can anticipate a new and fresh culinary direction with Executive Chef/Proprietor Gaby Hakman at the helm, moving away from the restaurant’s previous Southern influence towards a more diverse, seasonal, and vibrant, protein and vegetable-forward menu.

The Majestic will offer contemporary seasonal bistro fare showcasing uncomplicated and robust dishes with hints of a Mediterranean palate.  Recipes are rich in protein, vegetable-forward, and are not contrived or trendy.  Meats and produce are sourced locally and from small producers whenever possible.  Additionally, a rotisserie has been added to the kitchen, which allows the culinary team to cook food evenly and help seal in juices, producing more flavorful dishes.

President of Italy and his motorcade at the Warehouse Bar & Grill in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

A BIG motorcade was spotted in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia this afternoon (Sunday, February 7, 2016). Over a dozen readers contacted me instantly about the motorcade.

We were able to confirm through the Alexandria Police Department, as well as one other source, that the president of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, is dining in lower Old Town for brunch at the Warehouse Bar & Grill.
