welcomeWhen we launched eight (8) something years ago @ http://carlylecommunity.us, we had one (1) reader, we focused on the Carlyle/Eisenhower East neighborhood, and over time built up the site to an average of roughly 50,000 readers a month. This site is nothing without you guys!

When we launched 8 years ago at the old site, the Westin Alexandria hotel had yet to be built, the Carlyle Square Condominiums was in the process of being developed, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark campus was in the final stages of being built as was the Whole Foods Market in our Carlyle/Eisenhower East area.  The Hoffman Town Center plan had been released, and the Eisenhower East Small Area Plan was still being amended. Now, we have the National Science Foundation moving into the area in a few years and Carlyle South community coming online.

Our Carlyle/Eisenhower East community in Alexandria, Virginia has come a long way baby!

But, there’s A LOT going on around Alexandria as the City of Alexandria is growing too. I was getting asked all the time about posting items outside of the Carlyle/Eisenhower East neighborhood and after giving it much thought and after consulting a great many people on this, we’ve decided to expand the neighborhood blog to all of Alexandria. Out of this decision was born http://redbricktown.com. We’ll still keep tabs on the Carlyle/Eisenhower East area though given that I live in the neighborhood.

We’re going to have a launch party as t-shirts, logos, etc are being developed so stay tuned for that.

If you subscribe via email or RSS, nothing will change right now. The current domain at  http://www.carlylecommunity.us will still be up for the time being. After a time to be determined, we’ll have it redirect to the new site. Thank you for your continued readership and be sure to follow the new site on Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare, and ‘Like’ us on Facebook.

If there are any questions, please do let me know via this link or discuss in the comments below.

This blog will be moving in the near term to a new home at http://www.redbricktown.com.

Still not sure exactly what happened but, the good news is we’re back and thanks to several people for helping us get back online.

Nearest I can figure, we had a bad plugin in our system that corrupted several files and our data. We could only recover up to the end of June. So, it may look like there haven’t been any posts on this blog in about two months. We are now scouring our cache to re-post some of the top posts from the last two months. These will be identified at the beginning of the post with a [REPOST]. There won’t be too many re-posts, just the more popular one’s.

As the New Year begins and as we get ready to start our fourth year of operation, I personally want to thank the many thousands of folks who take the time to read what is posted on this site on a yearly basis. A HUGE thank you to all of you.

We’ve put up a new design and now we’re expanding our focus.

This year, instead of focusing solely on community affairs, events, and news happenings in and around our Carlyle Community of Alexandria, Virginia, we’ll be expanding to post videos from around Alexandria, live blogging City meetings/events, posting opinion items on newsworthy items happening in Alexandria, and posting items of interest that the Carlyle Community Council specifically is working on.

REMINDER: We’re always looking for people with an interest to better their community who’d like to help us cover events, post their own posts, etc. See this link for details.

Some of you may and some may not agree with some of the items posted. The posts will be framed in such a way to foster a discussion. Thank you for your continued loyalty and I hope to talk to you further in the year ahead.
