Fine'Tique in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia

After a brief six (6) months in business, Fine’Tique, a great little boutique shop in the 100 block of North Washington Street in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, has closed up shop with a notice saying they were ‘moving’. Since the end of December when the closure happened, I have been trying to find out details on this.

I can now tell you that sources tell me owners Ellen and Richard Vlasak, the couple that owns Circe Day Spa right next door, have decided to move the shop to New York.

This is an update to this post.

I had the chance to stop by FineTique, one of the newest boutique shops in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia yesterday. Fine’Tique is owned by the owners of the Circe Spa located right next door and is in the same space as the old First Federal Savings and Loan Association (more on that in a moment).

When you walk in, you are greeted by a wondrously smelling candle with a terrific place to park your pooch (see photo at this link).

They have some real fine gifts and antiques from what looked like of the federal period. There were candles (of course), fine china, crystal, jewelry, furniture, wine, and more with a focus on marrying the old and the new.

With the wine, they have done something unique – they have created a wine vault out of an actual bank vault that was part of the old savings and loan. I know some places have done this around the country but, this was my first time seeing one up close (see below). Also, with the wine, they sell wine from Honor Winery which benefits the Wounded Warrior Project which is an extremely cool thing for a veteran like me.

Make sure you check out the store, which is located at 119 North Washington Street, and visit Stacey and the rest of the staff, Jamie for the wine, and Ellen the owner. The store is open from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM M-F, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM Saturdays, and 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sundays.

Here are some shots of the wine vault. More photos are at this link.
