Michaels Opens 25,000 sq foot store in Alexandria, Virginia
This is an update to this post. As we told you first last year, Michaels, the national arts and crafts chain, is opening its first location in the city of Alexandria, Virginia in the Bradlee Shopping Center.
We have confirmed that the store opened for business on Friday, September 2, 2016 during Labor Day weekend. This is two (2) days earlier than initially planned. The opening is a SOFT opening with a grand opening planned for later in the month, likely 1-2 weeks after the initial soft opening. Right now, we hear if all goes according to plan, the grand opening will be Sunday, September 18.
As mentioned previously, the Alexandria Michaels store is two (2) floors and roughly 25,000 square feet with a little more than 12,000 square feet at street level. The downstairs space was once part of the Washington Sports Club, which closed last year.
Michaels is the largest arts and crafts specialty retailer in North America, featuring art supplies, general crafts and seasonal/home décor.
