New Capital Bikeshare station at Commonwealth Avenue an E. Oak Street in Alexandria, Virginia

Including these newly added Capital Bikeshare stations, a total of 24 Bikeshare stations are now throughout Alexandria, Virginia.

The 2016 station additions expand Bikeshare to the South Old Town, Rosemont, Potomac Yard and Fairlington neighborhoods, providing more options near metro stations and in Old Town and Del Ray.

Four new Bikeshare stations were installed in June 2016:

  • Commonwealth Avenue at Oak Street (see above)
  • Potomac Avenue at Mainline Boulevard (Station 650)
  • North Radford Street at Osage Street
  • Commonwealth Avenue at Monroe Avenue

New Capital Bikeshare Station Proposed

Capital Bikeshare users will soon have another place to share bikes, this time in the Rosemont neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia.

Alexandria, Virginia’s newest location for bicycle sharing is proposed at E. Oak and Commonwealth Avenue in the neighborhood (see below). The stand will be located about six (6) blocks north of the King Street – Old Town Metro Station. The proposal is going before tonight’s Traffic & Parking Board at 7:30 pm at City Hall.

Alexandria currently has nineteen Capital Bikeshare stations and the system has been very popular with residents and visitors to Alexandria, with over 105,000 trips departing from Alexandria stations since the program began.

Thirteen more stations have been ordered and are scheduled for installation this summer.

The Carlyle Council just restocked its supply of discounted annual memberships for the Capital Bikeshare program (CaBi).    This promotion is available to Carlyle residents and employees.  Annual Capital Bikeshare membership cost is $85.  However, with the Carlyle Council discounted offer, you can still purchase an annual membership for just $25.

This is how it works:

  • Notify your tenants, employees or residents of this initiative
  • Visit Carlyle Council’s website:   www.thecarlylecommunity.com
  • Under the “Capital Bikeshare Has Arrived” section click on the membership registration form
  • You will receive an email with your membership code and instructions on how to complete your membership registration on the Capital Bikeshare website

Carlyle is home to two Capital Bikeshare (CaBi) docking stations — one at 1800 Duke Street (see above) in front of the Subway Shop in the SHRM building — and the other located on the PTO campus in Dulany Gardens by Dulany Street and Ballenger Avenue.  Capital Bikeshare is a short term bicycle rental services that puts over 2500 bicycles at your fingertips.
