Motorists strongly urged to use alternate
routes to avoid significant delays

Weather permitting, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project will be continuing road closures in the Telegraph Road area through this weekend. This work is expected to cause significant backups and motorists are strongly encouraged to find alternate routes. Variable message signs will be posted to alert drivers and provide detour information.

UPDATE: This post has been updated due to a change in schedule.

The work schedule is as follows:

Friday, Nov. 16 at 10 p.m. to Saturday, Nov. 17 at 5 a.m.

  • Telegraph Road North will be closed between the ramp to Eisenhower Avenue and Duke Street.
    • Detours: Motorists headed to Duke Street should take the ramp to Eisenhower Avenue East to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street. Motorists headed to the Inner Loop should take Eisenhower Avenue West to the Eisenhower Connector. Motorists headed to the Outer Loop should take Huntington Avenue East to U.S. Route 1 North to the Outer Loop.
  • Telegraph Road South will be closed between Duke Street and Mill Road.
    • Detours: Motorists on Duke Street West should continue to Van Dorn Street South to the Outer Loop to Telegraph Road South. Motorists Duke Street East should continue to U.S. Route 1 South to Huntington Avenue West to Telegraph Road South.

Weather permitting, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project will continue conducting Capital Beltway, Telegraph Road interchange and other area closures March 24-April 6.  Variable message signs will be posted to alert drivers and provide detour information when necessary.  This work will have significant impacts on Beltway and local traffic, and motorists are strongly advised to seek alternate routes to avoid delays. The scheduled work is as follows.

TELEGRAPH ROAD  CLOSURES THIS WEEKEND
FRIDAY MARCH 30 – MONDAY APRIL 2

Friday, Mar. 30 at 9 p.m. CONTINUOUSLY until Monday, Apr. 2 at 5 a.m.:

  • Telegraph Road North will be closed at the Beltway to allow bridge and roadway construction.  Northbound travelers will be reduced to one lane before reaching Huntington Avenue; all traffic will be required to exit by the ramp to Eisenhower Avenue.  Also, Pershing Avenue access to Telegraph Road North will be closed.
    • Detour:  Motorists should take the ramp to Eisenhower Avenue to Eisenhower Avenue eastbound to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street.
  •  The ramp from Telegraph Road North to the Capital Beltway Outer Loop (I-95/495 North) will be closed for roadway construction.
    • Detour:  Motorists should take the ramp to Eisenhower Avenue to Eisenhower Avenue eastbound to the traffic circle to Holland Lane to Duke Street eastbound to U.S. Route 1 South to the on-ramp to the Outer Loop.
  •  The ramp from Telegraph Road North to the Capital Beltway Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) will be closed for roadway construction.
    • Detour:  Motorists should take the ramp to Eisenhower Avenue to Eisenhower Avenue westbound to the Eisenhower Connector to the Inner Loop.
  •  Telegraph Road South will be reduced to one lane from Duke Street to East Drive for bridge and roadway construction.  All Beltway access ramps from Telegraph South will remain open.

Please use caution when traveling in this area. All construction-related work and dates are subject to change, depending on weather, material and contractor availability or other unforeseen conditions.

NOTE: These closures cause severe backups as long as 10 minutes  through Carlyle on Jamieson Ave & Dulany Street. A majority of the time, Eisenhower Ave is clear between Stovall Street & Duke Street. It is recommended from Telegraph Road North that you take:

  • Stovall Street ramp and
  • turn right on Eisenhower Ave
  • follow Eisenhower Ave around the Eisenhower Circle to Holland Lane
  • At Duke Street light, turn left or right.

TELEGRAPH ROAD INTERCHANGE CLOSURES

Monday, Feb. 13 through Thursday, Feb. 16 DAILY from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and NIGHTLY from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning; also Friday, Feb. 17 DAYTIME from 9 a.m. to noon:

  • The ramp from Telegraph Road South to the Capital Beltway Outer Loop (I-95/495 North) will be closed for roadway construction during the following dates and times. Detour: Motorists should take the Huntington Avenue ramp to Huntington Avenue East to U.S. Route 1 North to the on-ramp to the Outer Loop.
  • The ramp from Telegraph Road South to N. Kings Highway will be closed for roadway construction during the following dates and times. Detour: Motorists should take the Huntington Avenue ramp to Huntington Avenue East to U.S. Route 1 South to N. Kings Highway.

CAPITAL BELTWAY CLOSURES

Wednesday, Feb. 15 and Thursday, Feb. 16 DAILY from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.:

  • The right shoulder of the Capital Beltway Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) between U.S. Route 1 and Telegraph Road will be closed for roadway construction. All lanes of traffic in this area of the Inner Loop will remain open; only the shoulder will be closed.
