Living Legends of Alexandria 2016

Living Legends appreciation event at Alexandria City Hall

Living Legends of Alexandria invites the public to the opening of “Living Legends of 2016” on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at Alexandria City Hall, 301 King Street, Alexandria, Virginia.

“Living Legends of 2016” is a photographic portrait exhibit (PDF) of fourteen Alexandrians whose vision, creativity, dedication and hard work have made a difference for their fellow citizens and the community as a whole. The exhibition is mounted in the Market Square Lobby and will remain on view through the year.

At the gathering on May 24, Living Legends of Alexandria, the non-profit organization responsible for the exhibition, will thank visionary civic leaders, artists and private sector representatives and officially open the exhibition to public view through the year.

“Living Legends recognizes citizen activists and tells their stories to the public through exhibitions and our catalog. Our unique relationship with Office of Historic Alexandria provides that these portraits and stories will be available to the public in the future,” notes Jennifer Ayers, president of the Living Legends Board of Directors. “We’re honored to keep the vision of Founder Nina Tisara a vibrant inspiration in our community.”

The history-makers whose portraits will be on view now join more than eighty persons designated as ‘Living Legends’ of Alexandria by yearly public nomination since the project’s founding in 2006.

Living Legends of Alexandria is a not for profit photo-documentary project to identify, honor, and chronicle people making current history in Alexandria. Living Legends educates the public to value local history and their own potential as history makers.

Living Legends of Alexandria invites the public to nominate a Legend for 2017. Deadline for receipt of nominations by mail and the website is July 31, 2016.
