Bigg Rigg Farms @ Upper King Street Farmers Market by Red Brick Town, on Flickr

UPDATED (8/26 – 7:16 AM): Date in the title was wrong. Was Sept 5, changed to Sept 4 which is Thursday.

As we told you first, the Upper King Street Fresh Farmers Market had applied for an S.U.P. and change of location. They have finally received approval for the SUP and will run a short season from September-October this year – only 9 Thursdays in 2014 — but come out and say hello!.

The market will have 10-12 vendors with an emphasis on local, freshly harvested foods and baked goods. Bakers, free range meats, eggs, Amish cheese, cookies and more…. Pick something up for dinner on your way home!

The new site will be at 1755 Duke street – the hotel/office complex called “King St Station”. This is a terrific commercial-community partnership. The market will be in the lovely fountain courtyard – easy landmark is Embassy Suites hotel on Diagonal Street – directly across from the Metro. And, 30 minutes of free underground parking for patrons!

The website will be updated soon with new vendors. See you at the market!

Upper King Street Fresh Farmers' Market - Returning in 2014

After a year away, it looks like the Upper King Street Fresh Farmers’ Market will be returning in 2014 with a couple of changes.

The Upper King Street Neighborhood Association has an Administrative Special Use Permit request pending to hold a weekly farmers’ market on Thursdays instead of the previous Wednesday. Also, looks like they will be moving from the old location at King Street Gardens to a new location at King Street Station off of Reinekers Lane (See below…).

You can view the SUP request at this link (PDF file).

Butchers Block retail space at Lorien Hotel located at 1600 King Street in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia

An update to this post.

As stated in the previous post, a retail space opportunity like this one, located at 1600 King Street in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia near the King Street Metro Station, doesn’t come along very often.

Eater DC has the reason for the closing:

According to a statement from Kimpton Hotels, which operates the property, the company wants to keep its focus on Brabo and The Tasting Room, both located at the Lorien Hotel & Spa.

“Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, in conjunction with Robert Wiedmaier, is committed to working with all current employees of The Butcher’s Block to find other potential job opportunities within the company. Meanwhile, BRABO and The Tasting Room remain dedicated to serving the Old Town Alexandria community,” the company said in a statement.

Call the number or email CBRE if you’re interested in this space. What do you think should go here?

The pedestrian tunnel, which connects our community to the King Street Metro Station, will be open at 7:00am and the Carlyle Shuttle will be up and running at 8:00am this morning with regular schedule for the afternoon..
