Old Town’s newest Farmer’s Market is open Thursdays from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM year-round at Montgomery Park at located at 901 N. Royal Street in Alexandria, Virginia. The market features local growers, bakers, and other area providers of wholesome foods including Twin Springs, Grace’s Pastries, Bread & Water, and Relay Foods year round, weather permitting.

Tone Up and Check In in Old Town North, October 10

On Saturday, October 10, the City of Alexandria is holding a FREE event for the Old Town North community in Montgomery Park, located at 901 N. Royal Street in Alexandria, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The Tone Up and Check In event is a fun-filled day for adults, children and pet dogs that will include:

  • Free Zumba, Boot Camp, Yoga, and Kids’ Workouts offered throughout the event by local Old Town North health and fitness establishments
  • Free bicycle safety checks in the morning
  • Noontime entertainment by Metro Stage artists
  • Information provided by the City throughout the day about the upcoming Old Town North Small Area Plan process and ways the community can participate
  • Sales of fresh food–juice, Danish, produce, and an assortment of nuts—by invited vendors
  • The Finale: a pre-Halloween Doggie Costume Parade! Bring Fido for a festive Halloween dress rehearsal

This is the first of several City community outreach events for the Old Town North Small Area Plan process, which is anticipated to extend from October 2015 to January 2017.

The City of Alexandria’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is repairing the tennis court at Montgomery Park, 901 North Royal Street in Old Town Alexandria, VA. The court surface will be repaired and recolored. Please note that the court will not be usable when the repairs are in progress.

Work is scheduled to take place between June 16 and June 27. Residents will see equipment in use and crews at work during the daytime. Signs will be posted onsite with construction information. For your safety, please use extra caution when moving around the site.

Buchanan Partners, developers for the Harris Teeter Development, will begin park improvements at Montgomery Park, 901 North Royal St., beginning the week of March 17 weather permitting. Park improvements are scheduled to be completed in mid-May, and the dog park will close during construction. For other City Dog Park locations, visit

Montgomery Park improvements include a 2,500 square foot expansion, new access gates, fencing and new site furnishings including a dog water fountain and benches to the existing dog park. Additional park improvements include new tree and shrub plantings, irrigation system, new park access from Fairfax St. and updated park signage.

The improvements are a requirement of the Harris Teeter Development Special Use Permit Condition #108, and were determined during the development review process and at the Planning Commission and City Council public hearings of June 25, 2011. The specific park improvements required in Condition #108 originated from a community driven park plan. Condition #108 can be viewed by visiting Montgomery Park improvements are required to be fulfilled prior to the release of the certificate of occupancy.
