Dump Truck accident on Eastbound Duke Street at N. Quaker Lane in Alexandria, Virginia

At approximately 1:00 PM, a dump truck traveling eastbound on Duke Street in Alexandria, Virginia flipped on its side causing traffic backups. Traffic is now open one (1) lane eastbound but, expect major delays heading into the afternoon rush hour in this corridor. Hearing accident should be clear by 3:00 PM.

Power Outages in Alexandria, Virginia
UPDATE (10:12 AM): Dominion has restored power to two of three affected areas Sunday morning. Only area still out is the West Glebe Road/Parkfairfax area of Alexandria. Dominion says power should be restored in this area by 11:00 am.

More than 100 customers are currently without power today in Alexandria, Virginia, according to Dominion Power after heavy rains on Saturday. The cause of the outage on West Glebe Road area is a tree on the line (see below), according to the power company.

The map shows three (3) outage areas affecting customers in the Parkfairfax area as well as Fairlington/Bradlee and in the West End.

Dominion has a timetable of late morning for the West Glebe Road area outage and mid-day for the Fairlington/Bradlee outage. If your power is out, be sure and report it at this link.

Night paving on Duke Street in Alexandria, Virginia from North Quaker Lane to South Jordan Street
Night paving operations began in Alexandria, Virginia for the 2016 season on Sunday, May 8. The first section of street resurfacing work is on Duke Street between N. Quaker Lane and S. Jordan Street. Nightly milling and paving operations are scheduled between 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. This work on Duke Street is projected to run through Thursday, May 26, 2016.

On May 23, crews will begin night paving operations on King Street from Menokin Dr to N Quaker Lane.

APD badgeAs we told you first, the Alexandria Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1200 block of North Quaker Lane late last night (Friday, July 24, 2015).

At approximately 9:52 PM, officers responded to an apartment complex for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, a 17 year-old male City resident, suffering from a wound to the upper body. He was transported to a local hospital. The victim’s injury was identified as a non life-threatening gunshot wound at the hospital. The investigation is ongoing.

APD BadgeThe Alexandria Police Department is investigating a felonious assault in the 1200 block of N. Quaker Lane (see below) this evening. The victim was transported to hospital. Expect Police activity in area.

‚ÄėFelonious Assault‚Äô is defined as an assault that involved (A) a dangerous weapon with intent to cause bodily injury (i.e., not merely to frighten) with that weapon; (B) serious bodily injury; or (C) an intent to commit another felony.

Hospital has confirmed the felonious assault victim was shot once, a non-life-threatening injury to the upper body.


Via WTOP, from the photos I have seen of the accident, it’s amazing the motorcyclist survived the accident which happened at around 4:30 PM Tuesday at the Church of Saint Clement on N. Quaker Lane.
