The 2015 St Rita 5K and Fun Run for Education is this Saturday, November 14, in Alexandria, Virginia with a course in the Eisenhower Valley! The race is a USATF certified course and limited to the first 600 entrants. Runners of all ages and abilities can choose between a 5K or a fun run.
This is the 12th Annual St. Rita 5k and the first year on the flat and fast course of Eisenhower Avenue. The race started as a modest effort to raise funds for a much-needed playground for the students at the school. Since then, it has grown every year. Last year, the women’s race was won by Susannah Sullivan, a 2016 Olympic Trials Marathon Qualifier in a blistering time. Two women were under 17 minutes and one was under 18. The men’s was won bu Kevin McNab in under 15 minutes! We give out cash to the top finishers but go two and sometimes three deep in all adult race categories, depending on the depth of each field. Children’s awards are given out in the fun run to all finishers. Medals to the top three in various age group and gender categories and trophies for the 5k winners.
While supplies last, there is great race bag swag in the form of Noodles and Co. Coupons, Free small pizza coupon from Z Pizza, free chicken sandwich from Chik-Fil-A and free small yogurt form Sweet Frog, and many other exciting coupons and goodies.
