Alexandria Historical Society hosts a special Mt. Vernon tour April 6

A Special Evening With A Special Neighbor

George Washington had many business and personal acquaintances in Alexandria throughout his adult life, and cherished these connections. As a young officer in the Virginia militia, he recruited local troops for the French & Indian War; as a farmer, he shipped tobacco and flour and received merchandise from overseas through Alexandria merchants; he had a vessel built in an Alexandria shipyard; he saw to it that the district surrounding the new Federal capital included Alexandria, when Washington, D.C. was first laid out; and later in life, he celebrated his birthday and other special occasions at Gadsby’s Tavern. Now, the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Historical Society (AHS) invites the public to join them and the AHS membership for a very special evening at Mount Vernon, April 6, 2017 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

“A Neighborly Visit: A Special Evening at Mt. Vernon” will include private after-hours tours of the Mansion, the Distillery and the Grist Mill. The visit to the Distillery includes a rye whiskey tasting, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar for additional evening refreshments. The ticket price for the event is $40.00 for non-members and $35.00 for AHS members. The maximum size of our group is 40 people, so get your tickets NOW by visiting the Society’s website.
