Water Main Break generic

There is a water main break that occurred this morning (February 20, 2017) on North Howard Street near INOVA Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia. No report that the hospital is affected.

All lanes blocked in this area. The only access to the hospital from N. Howard Street is to continue along N. Jordan Street, then a right on Seminary Road to the hospital which will be on the right.

There is a water main break this afternoon (July 12, 2016) at westbound Duke Street and Quaker Lane in Alexandria, Virginia.

Expect delays as one lane is getting by heading westbound on Duke Street headed to the West End. Take King Street to Janney’s Lane to Seminary Road to N. Howard Street to Duke Street to get around the delays.

Boil water

This is an update to this post. As we told you first, Virginia American Water had issued a boil water advisory for the Landmark and Van Dorn neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia surrounding last week ‘s massive water main break.

Now, the advisory has been lifted on Sunday morning.

As we told you first yesterday, Virginia American Water has issued a boil water advisory for the Landmark and Van Dorn neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia surrounding Wednesday’s massive water main break.

Advisory is in effect through at least Saturday, June 25.

Alexandria: Edsall road and South Van Dorn Street: Boil Water Advisory Virginia American Water has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for customers living near the South Van Dorn/Edsall Road intersection of Alexandria. The advisory follows a water main break that occurred yesterday along Edsall Road. Customers are asked to bring water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, bathing, and food preparation to a full boil for a minimum of one minute, then cool before use. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water. Once the system recovers, we will be collecting water quality samples in the area of the outage. You will receive another message from Virginia American Water letting you know when this advisory is lifted. For more information, contact our customer service center at 1-800-452-6863. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure the integrity of the system and the quality of the water. Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly.

As readers know, Edsall Road between S. Van Dorn and S. Whiting near I-395 remains closed Thursday while crews finish repairing last night’s MAJOR water main break in Alexandria, Virginia.

Work is almost complete on repairs to the water main as well as the two broken valves in the immediate vicinity of the break. However, crews still must finish repairing the roadway after the repairs to the water main are complete. Expect Edsall Road to remain CLOSED through the beginning of the evening rush hour.

Now, Virginia American Water has issued this boiling water advisory for the immediate area around Edsall Road

Almost finished repairs. If you are still without water now, we anticipate water to be back on between 3 and 4 pm today.

When it comes back on, if you live at Landmark Terrace, Alexandria Station, Stanton Place or Cascade at Landmark please boil your water first before drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, bathing, and food preparation. bring to a full boil for a minimum of one minute, then cool before use. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water.

Once the system recovers, we will be collecting water quality samples in the area of the outage. You will receive another message from us letting you know when this advisory is over.

Edsall Road between S. Van Dorn and S. Whiting near I-395 remains closed Thursday morning while crews finish repairing last night’s MAJOR water main break in Alexandria, Virginia. Weather is hampering the effort and delaying the crew. Crews found not only the water main broke in this repair but, also two valves.

Crews have repaired one valve and are finishing repairing the second valve. Then, they will begin repairing the water main and repairing the roadway. I would expect this closed through morning rush hour.
