Congressman Don Beyer announced Sunday he would not be attending Friday’s presidential inauguration and instead said he would attend today’s Women’s March on Washington where he was joined by Alexandria Delegate Mark Levine and others.

Organizers said the Women’s March on Washington is a nonpartisan event aimed at advancing a specific policy agenda: expanding family leave, ending racial profiling, and maintaining or broadening access to abortion and birth control, among other issues.

“It’s not a march about Trump the man,” Terry O’Neill, the president of the National Organization for Women, said in an interview. “It’s a march about women’s rights that are very much imperiled by the policies President-elect Trump appears headed for.”
